August served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24J #42-51378, 765th Bomber Squadron, 461st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided at 67 Akron Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

August was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was hit by enemy Anti-Aircraft flak over Austria and crashed during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in St. Avold, France and was later repatriated here on January 31, 1952.
