Graveside funeral services and interment for John D. Eddy were conducted Dec. 30 at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Eddy, 78, of 3260 Aqua Marine Avenue in Rockford, Ill., died at 3:26 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford.
A resident of Rockford for the past three years and former longtime resident of Rock Springs, Eddy had been in ill health the past several days.
He was born in Brilliant, Ala., Oct. 14, 1907, the son of the late Phillip and Annie Love Eddy. He attended schools in Illinois and married the former Mary Vennie Phillips in Holly Springs, MS, Aug. 7, 1947. She preceded him in death Sept. 9, 1974.
Eddy was a retired coal miner at the time of his death. He was a member of the Baptist Church and past president of the United Mine Workers of America Local Union.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Loretta) Sayler of Rockford and Mrs. Lee (Ann) Stafseth of Rockford; one daughter-in-law, Doris (Lou) Denton of Rock Springs; two brothers, Herb of Birmingham, AL, and Phillip of Canton, GA; one sister, Wilmot Walker of Moselle, MS; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Eddy was preceded in death by one stepson, one grandson, three sisters and one brother.
