Mr. Dean was a well known timber expert and at the time of his death was employed by the Mansfield Lumber Co. He was a native of Winn and had lived in the parish all his life and was a member of a prominent family and a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.
In his early life he was married to Miss Mertie McCarty of Sikes who preceded him in death and to this union was born three children who are Wert Dean of Levelland, Texas; Stanley Dean with the U.S. Navy stationed at Guam; and Buel Dean Hancock of Winnfield. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ronald and Billy K. Dean of Levelland, Texas, and Gwendolyn and Richard Hancock of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Fox of Winnfield, Route 4; Mrs. Fannie Fox of Levelland, Texas; two brothers, A. T. Dean of Winnfield, and J. T. Dean of Georgetown, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held at the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church on January 21 at 3 o'clock with Rev. C. M. Robinson officiating, assisted by Rev. Smith, pastor of Hurricane Grove Church, Rev. W. C. Elmore and Rev. K. T. Valentine.
Pallbearers were Ivy McCarty, Ira McCarty, Troy McCarty, Shile McCarty, brothers in law of the deceased, and Fred Lovell and L. H. Love.
Interment was in the Hurricane Grove Cemetery with the Southern Funeral Home in charge.
