Death of Mrs. Merrill

Mrs. M.C. Merrill of Monticello, familiarly known as "Aunt Jo" died at her home north of the fairgrounds, Sunday morning after an illness of two weeks. She had been poorly for a number of years with a kidney trouble.

The funeral was held, Monday afternoon at the residence, Rev. Aitken officiaiting. Mrs. Merrill's maiden name was Gifford and she was born in Vermont in 1828, coming to Monticello in 1864, when her husband William Goble built the house where sh has since lived.

This house has long been a land mark and the well on the place with its lifts was early famed for the excellence of its waters.

She was married three times. She is survived by a husband, M.C. Merrill to whom she was married in 1889, and two sons, Leander Phillips of Royal Center, Ind and William Goble of Kansas City, all of whom were at the funeral.

Interment at Monticello Cemetery.
