Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg. A service was held 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in Greenwood Chapel, followed by interment in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Joe was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Denton to Joseph and Henrietta Schwartz Kunze, German descendants. He married Lucylle Blakley on Dec. 24, 1936, and they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2008. They lived in east Fort Worth from 1920 until moving to Fredericksburg in 1991.
Joe was active in the community in Fort Worth, serving as president of Dad's Club, president of the Civic League of Fort Worth, president of Methodist Men's Club of Fort Worth, and Cub Scout Master.
He served in the U.S. Navy, 1942-1945. After moving to Fredericksburg, he was active in Zion Lutheran Church, Salvation Army, volunteered at Vereins Kirche Museum, and worked at Oktoberfest.
Joe was awarded the Community Achievement Award from the city of Fredericksburg in 2002, and Medallion Award Ambassador to the Comanche Nation in 1997. He earned 60-year Master Mason from Masonic Lodge #1140 of Handley.
Survivors: Wife, Lucylle B. Kunze; son, Dr. Randy Kunze and wife, Shirley; and grandchildren, Derek Kunze of Grand Prairie, Stefanie Clark and husband, Adam, of Dalhart, Dustin Kunze and wife, Katy, of Arlington, Heath Dollar and wife, Martina, of Rowlett, Jason Dollar and Kevin Jones of Dallas; and great-granddaughter, Avery Kunze of Grand Prairie.
