Gene Autry, OK — Funeral services for Alberta "Fronie" Douglass, age 92, are Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Gene Autry with the Rev. Kirk Rushing officiating. Rev. Eugene Bellard will eulogize. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Mrs. Douglass is the last of five children born to the union of Albert and Bertha Cohee Johnson.

Alberta's mother died when she was two years old, and she was reared by her stepmother, Myrtle Williams Johnson, who died in 1964. Alberta united with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at a young age and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor E. Ruff.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in Berwyn in 1936. In 1937 she met and married Leroy Williamson and the couple made their home in Ardmore. During this transition she united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Hannah. Her husband, Leroy, died in 1974.
May 5, 1975 Alberta married L.C. Douglass of the Dunbar Community. He died June 18, 1992. L.C. had six children with the youngest, Donald, being nine years old. She was elated to become a moma. Donald died Aug. 2, 2000. No children were born during either of her marriages. Having no children of her own, Alberta was very happy to become a stepmother.

After making her home in the Dunbar Community, she joined the Nazarene Baptist Church during the leadership of Pastor Harris. She was employed at Turner High School as a teacher's aide for five years. She also served as a N.T.M.C. Aide for the Department of Human Services.

Alberta and L.C. later joined the New Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, where she continued to serve on the Ushers' Board. Throughout her Christian journey, she ministered as an usher, with the Women's Mission and as Youth Director.

Alberta is preceded in death by parents, husbands, four siblings, Pearl, Delbert, Luther and Cecil; her son, Donald, and two stepchildren, Robert and Ernest Douglass. She departed this mortal life Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Mercy Memorial Hospital. She leaves to forever cherish precious memories, two grandchildren, Arian and Tory Douglass; six nieces, Carolyn Pirtie, Nover Roberts, Elaine Carr, Sheila Hooks, Tonya McCloud and Lydra; six nephews, Albert Johnson, Charles Johnson, Ronald Johnson, John Johnson, Craig Lofton and Fred Lofton Jr.; stepchildren, Sammie Lornes, Lewis Douglass and Ray Douglas; numerous step-grandchildren, and generations of nieces and nephews.

Visitation begins Friday at 10 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Home, Ardmore. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].
