Hattie Eva Smoot was the fifth child born to Joseph Henry Smoot and Rosa Lee Seay Smoot.

She married John Reuben Dressler on Dec. 21, 1914.

No children were born to this union.

Hattie owned a large home with several acres on River Road. This house was just down from St. Mary's Episcopal Church across the road.

Hattie worked at a tobacco factory, she later raised tobacco on her land. Hattie purchased a small country store with a gas pump down the road from her property and she had someone to manage it for her.

Hattie later was the caretaker at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, where she was a member and also is mentioned in the their book on page eleven. She worked as hard as any man and was always there for her family. Hattie died from a Cerebral Hemorrhage. Hattie was my great Aunt and I remember her well.
