OBITUARY - ARTHUR WILLIAM BOHNER
JANUARY 13, 1897 - JANUARY 21, 1959

Arthur William Bohner, age 62, of Grand Junction, Iowa, died January 21, 1959, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa of lung cancer.

Funeral services with Masonic Rites were held at the Grand Junction Methodist Church. Interment in Grand Junction Cemetery (aka Township Cemetery), west of Grand Junction, Iowa.

He was survived by his wife, Esther Towne Bohner; three sisters, Mae Bohner Erickson, Lillian Bohner Stockdale and Dorothy Bohner; two brothers, Robert Abraham Bohner and Fred Theodore Bohner.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, William Towne Bohner; his parents Frank & Sarah Buffington Bohner; four sisters, Margaret Bohner Riffle, Sarah "Anna" Bohner, Edna Helen Bohner Lair, and Grace Louise Bohner; one brother, Clifford Alonzo Bohner

Art was a member of the Grand Junction Methodist Church, Junction Lodge A.F. & A.M., Cornerstone Chapter 64, Emmaus Commandery No 35, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the order of the Eastern Star. Art was a charter member of the Grand Junction Lions Club and served as district secretary.

Art loved the outdoors and spent much of his time after retirement enjoying the association of his many friends on fishing and hunting trips.

BIOGRAPHY

Arthur William Bohner was born January 13, 1897 at Harrisburg, Shamokin County, Pennsylvania to William Franklin & Sarah Elizabeth Buffington Bohner. Art was baptized April 4, 1897 by Rev. Wayne Charwell.

In April 1897, as a newborn infant, Arthur moved with his parents and four sisters, Margaret, Anna, Mae and Edna and one brother, Robert, to Perry, Iowa. In 1904 Art moved with his parents to Des Moines, Iowa where he grew to manhood and received his education. The City Directory for Des Moines for 1913, 1914, and 1915, listed Art as a "Mailer" for the Des Moines Capitol Newspaper.

Art served in World War I and was in Officers Training School at Rockford, Illinois at the time of his discharge.

On September 25, 1918, Arthur William Bohner married Esther Irene Towne at Des Moines, Iowa by Rev. Matthews. Esther, the daughter of Guy Wells and Lulu Leota Black Towne, was born July 23,1896, at Jamaica, Guthrie County, Iowa.

On December 3, 1931, their only child, William Towne Bohner was born. The infant died three days later on December 6, 1931, from a defective heart valve.

Art & Esther farmed in Dallas and Greene County, Iowa until 1930 after which they spent 15 years operating Bohner Grocery Stores in Dana, Iowa and Grand Junction, Iowa. Art retired from the grocery business in 1946.

Esther Irene Towne Bohner, age 98, died November 30, 1994, of a stroke at the Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Grand Junction United Methodist Church. Interment Grand Junction Cemetery (aka JunctIon Township Cemetery), Grand Junction, Iowa.

Esther was survived by a sister Glee Towne Moriarity of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur William Bohner; infant son, William Towne Bohner; her parents, Guy & Lulu Black Towne.
