----------------
Hebron, July 4 -- Mrs. Hannah B. Cushman who passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mae F. Bicknell recently was a real daughter of the American Revolution and it is said there are but five left in the State, one of them being her sister, Mrs. Warren who is 73 years of age and is the youngest. She was a respected member of the John A. Hodge Relief Corps, and was a member of Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter D.A.R. of North Anson. Her father James Allen Jr., lived to see three wars and served in two with distinction. He was born in New London Ct., in 1762 and enlisted as a drummer boy in the army of George Washington when 14 years of age. He died at Canton in 1867 at the age of 105 years.
Mrs. Cushman was the widow of the late Stephen L. Cushman of Canton, a civil war veteran. She was born in Canton Maine, April 28, 1838 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen Jr. She was one of a family of eleven children, three of whom survive her: E. W. Allen of Livermore Falls, Osborne T. Allen of California and Mrs. Nancy M. Warren of Augusta, who was with her sister when she passed away. Mrs. Cushman has three daughters and two sons living. They are Mrs. Mae Bicknell with whom she has made her home for a year, and who has so tenderly cared for her in her last sickness. Mrs. Sadie E. Millott of Mechanic Falls, Mrs. Jonnie A. Ellis of Otisfield, Elmer E. Cushman and Noyes S. Cushman of Canton. A son Leon died several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Cushman always lived in Canton where their children were born. Mrs. Cushman was a christian woman uniting with the Baptist Church in Canton when a young woman. She was a devoted and loving other, a kind and sympathetic neighbor. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was a great sufferer, yet she bore it with patience and said, "The Lord's will not mine be done."
