Sidney (Pete) Bennett passed peacefully on January 6th, 2009 at his farm home in Peyton, Colorado where he has lived for over 30 years.

Pete was born on March 28th, 1935 in a rural community in Louisiana. He learned to work hard at a young age and took on the responsibility of caring for his family while he was still in elementary school.

He joined the Army in 1952 and served his country during the Korean conflict. After 12 years of active duty, Pete separated from the military and settled in Colorado Springs.

It was in Colorado Springs that Pete met and married Peggy (Gieck). For the next decade, Pete built a career in the restaurant business eventually owning and operating his own cafe.

In 1976, Pete and Peggy left the city and moved east to Peyton where they started a hog farm. During the last 10 years before his retirement, Pete worked as an HVAC technician before retiring in 1991.

Retirement did not slow him down. Instead, he focused on training hunting dogs, hunting and fishing. He worked to keep the farm in tip-top shape and never ran out of projects that needed to be done. When he did have a free moment, Pete was either cooking for friends and family or scheming to pull a prank. He was happiest when people were eating around the table and laughter filled the air.

Pete is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Lori and sons, Don and Theron. He is also survived by three sisters, Myrtiss, Ruth and Vivian. He is grandfather to seven and uncle to many more. He will be deeply missed.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Swan Law Chapel located on 501 North Cascade Avenue.
