He was the son of the late Stanislaus and Kathryn (Smith) Smith.
Edgar was retired from PH Glatfelter Co. after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, a life member of the McSherrystown Moose, Littlestown Eagles and the McSherrystown Home Association.
He was the husband of the late Rita M. (Smith) Smith, who died April 8, 1983, and surviving are three sons, Donald J. Smith and wife Charlotte of Hanover, Stephen M. Smith and wife Karen of Hanover, and Gregory S. Smith and wife Lisa of York; four grandchildren, Kenneth Smith, Anthony Smith, Matthew Smith, and Julia Kolcharno; two great-grandchildren, Brady Smith and Lila Kolcharno; and a sister, Sr. Elena Smith of Our Lady of Victory Knoll in Indiana.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Philip Smith, Leon Smith, and William Smith; and three sisters, Edith Roth, Regina Lawrence, and Rita Timmins.
Interment was with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Council.
