ISRAEL PICKENS ISRAEL PICKENS3 (VAN DAVIS2, VANN1 DAVIS) was born 16 Feb 1805 in 96th District, Pendleton Co, SC, and died 08 Mar 1891 in Buncombe District, Polk, GA, United States. He married MARY SMITH 06 Feb 1826 in Franklin Co, GA, daughter of WILLIAM SMITH. She was born 14 Sep 1807 in Habersham, GA, United States, and died 11 Dec 1894 in Davistown, Polk, GA, USA.

Israel registered for land in Franklin Co GA land lottery of 1827. On 5 Jan 1841, he signed receipt number 7 for $35 as an heir in the estate of Van Davis, Jr, Franklin Co GA. In 1827, Israel and nine brothers, sisters and friends from Northeastern Georgia counties, mainly Franklin and Anderson Co in SC and became pioneer settlers of Polk, Paulding, Bartow and Floyd counties area. They settled on rough, uncleared land in the Hill's Creek area. The mighty Cherokee Indian Nation still existed and it took in most of the Northeast area which would now include about forty counties in Georgia.
