James Allison, merchant tailor, of the firm of Ellis, Weaver & Allison, is a native of Scotland and was born in 1840; he was put to learn the trade of a tailor when 11 years old and has followed that business ever since. He came to America in 1858 and located in Urbana in 1864, and in 1878 became a member of the above firm. Mr Allison's mother, an aged Scottish lady, now resides with him. He married in 1868, Belle, daughter of William Sampson; she is a sister of Mrs IB Happersett whose biography appears in this work. They have two children -James M and Bertha. Mr Allison has had years of practical experience as a salesman and cutter, and is a worth citizen. Mr Allison is a member of the Order of Red Men, also of the Masonic Order and IOOF

James Allison for many years a resident of Urbana but for the last several years a resident of New York died yesterday afternoon at the home of his son J Murray Allison in New York. He had been afflicted for some time with paralysis and this was the cause of his death.
Mr Allison lived in Urbana for many years being a leading merchant tailor of the city. He had stores in several locations in the city. At one time he was located where the office of the Adams Express Company now is and at an other time he was located in the northwest corner of the square. He was associated in business at one time with Griffith Ellis of this city.
The deceased left Urbana about 11 years ago going to Cincinnati. Later he went in Covington, KY, and later to New York where he has since lived.
Mr Allison was 72 years old and leaves two children, a daughter and a son Murray Allison, both of whom live in New York. He also leaves 2 brothers - Thomas Allison of this city and William Allison of Mt Healthy Ohio, and five sisters Miss Annie Allison of this city, Mrs Ross and Mrs Reid of Hamilton, Mrs Caldwell of Kennard and Mrs Robert Hamilton who lives in Australia.
