Martha Susan Shirley "Mattie" was the daughter of Henry Vardiman Shirley and Mary Ellen Turnage. She married Milford Riggs Givens in 1876 in Missouri. They had 6 children: Claude Givens, Maude Ellen Givens, Berry V. Givens, Granville L. Givens, Guy Q. Givens, and Robert Jess Givens. They were later divorced. Mattie married Gustavus Frederick Yanke in about 1901. She was the founder of Givens Hot Springs in Owyhee County, Idaho.
