Enlisted in Company K, Twenty-third Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment on August 8, 1862, at Vienna Township, Genesee County, Michigan for a 3-year term at 31 years of age. Mustered in September 11, 1862. Died of disease (typhoid pneumonia and fever) in a General Hospital at Lebanon, Marion County, Kentucky on November 12, 1862. Buried in National Cemetery, Lebanon, Ky. Grave No. 517. -- U.S., Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865 and U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865.

He mustered out of Holly, MI where he was living with an older sister. He was killed in action- Cold Harbor Jun 1 1864, Wooster Rd.
