Ira Dibble Pooser, Jr. Age 88, of James Island, SC, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Hospice Center of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant.

Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services Monday, November 5, 2007 at eleven o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Sunday between five and eight o'clock.

Ira was born March 27, 1919 in Charleston, SC to Ira Dibble Pooser, Sr. and Leanora Jenkins Pooser.

He was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School and a was a member of James Island Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Veteran of World War II having fought courageously in the European Theatres (Campaigns- Ardennes, Rhineland, Central European) and earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Distinguished Unit Badge GO 116. After his return from the war he went back to work at the Charleston Navy Shipyard and joined the SC State National Guard. Ira worked for civil service for forty-two years and served in the National Guard as Master Sergeant in charge of the Medical Platoon for thirty years.

He was a true patriot of the highest caliber, a loving and wonderful husband, the absolute best father and father-in-law, and greatest Grand-Ira any one could ever hope for. Ira was a very talented woodworker and loved to share the results of his artisan skills with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Margie Drawdy Pooser: one son: Frederick Gerald Pooser and his wife Frances of James Island; one grandson, Robert Pooser and his wife Lori of James Island; one grand-daughter, Allison Pooser Crosby and her husband, Lanier of Walterboro, SC; four great granddaughters: Carolyn, Chelsea, Jalyn and Natalie; one brother, William Kenneth Pooser and his wife, Teri, of Tulsa, OK; one sister-in-law, Helen Lukasavage of James Island, and a nephew, Niki and Jeffrey Lukasavage.

He was predeceased by his sons, Ira Donald Pooser and Robert Michael Pooser. Ira will be sorely missed by his family, friends and walking buddies; Tybaby, ToTo, Fritz and Heidi.
