Catherine Elizabeth Rambo was the daughter of John Braden Rambo and Anna Jane Dexter. She had siblings: George Darreington (1857), Mary A. (1858), Ellen Florence (1860), Celestia Beletta (1861), John Coradon (1863), Almira Jane (1864), Lewis Henry (1867), Edward Calvin (1868), Lylly E. (1870), William (1872), Oren Summerfield (1875), Minerva Dell (1876) and Guy Braden (1879).

She married Joseph Johnstone February 28, 1871 in Iowa. They had the following children: James Elmer (1873), John William, George Bert, Elva Jane (1880), Elizabeth Blanche, Cora May (1886), and Robert Roscoe (1890).

She married (2) W. W. Stephens in 1904.
