PARENTS JOSEPH CROCKER AND EUNICE LIVERMORE EWERS.CHARLES HAVENS WAS WORKING FOR A FARMER WHO WAS A NEIGHBOR TO THE EWERS THIS PROBABLY HOW ELIZA AND CHARLES MET.IN 1872 THE WERE MARRIED IN VERNON MICHIGAN. TWO SONS WERE BORN TO ELIZA AND CHARLES FLOYD IN 1874 AND CHARLES CLYDE 1876 . THE FAMILY MOVED TO STERLING KANSAS ABOUT 1877 AND RALPH W 1878 WAS BORN. ELIZA AND CHARLES FARMED OUTSIDE STERLING,CHARLES ALSO HAD A PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO IN STERLING.ELIZA BECAME ILL AND IN 1889 CHARLES AND HIS SONS LOADED TWO WAGONS TO TAKE ELIZA TO TENNESSEE FOR TREATMENT.THE BOYS KEPT DIARIES OF THE TRIP THAT FOLLOWED WHAT IS NOW KS 96 AND US54 TO COLOMBIA MO. ELIZA HEALTH BY THIS TIME WAS GRAVE AND SHE DIED ON SEPT.29,1889. WITH THE HELP OF LOCAL PEOPLE AND THE LOCAL LODGE MEMBERS ELIZA WAS PREPAIRED FOR BURIAL.CHARLES BROUGHT HER BACK TO STERLING BY TRAIN TO BE BURIED AND RETURNED TO BRING HIS BOYS BACK HOME.
