Melvin E. "Bill" Austin 92 of Waverly died at 12 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville. He was born March 21, 1915 in Modesto, the third child of Olen A. and Tessie Dunn Austin.. He married Violet Darlene Halford, June 11, 1938 at the Carlinville Courthouse, and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Billy (wife, Sherry) Austin of Waverly, and Steven Austin of Charlotte, NC.; two grandsons, Billy, Jr. "Butch" of Modesto and Barry (wife, Anna) of Waverly; four great-grandchildren, Billy III, Danielle and Lacie of Waverly and Shelby of Lubbock, TX, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Roy and Lawrence and two sisters, Ada Jean and Elsie.

Mr. Austin graduated from Modesto Community High School in 1933. He worked locally as a mechanic for many years, and later retired from the Illinois State Library. He was a member of Waverly United Methodist Church.

Services were entrusted to Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of Waverly, Illinois.
