Memorial services for Wahnita B. Henry, 89, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be in the Pioneer
Cemetery on the West Campus of Kansas University.
Mrs. Henry died of congestive heart failure Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Circleville, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence R. and Rose Woolever Barnhart. She had lived in Lawrence since 1947.
Mrs. Henry received a bachelor's degree in education from Miami of Ohio in 1941.
Following graduation, she taught school in Circleville, Ohio, and worked in the admissions office at The Ohio State University.
Mrs. Henry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, FZ Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, the No Name Study Club, the University Women's Club, Women in Education and the American Association of Retired Persons.
She married Donald W. Henry on May 22, 1943, in Big Springs, Texas. He preceded her in death May 26, 1995.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan J. Newcomb, in July 1989, and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Kay Henry, of Overland Park; a son, David W. and wife Jane, Lawrence; and a brother, Glenn W. Barnhart, Dayton, Ohio.
