Hugh Johnson, eldest son of Joseph A. and Kate [Van Cleave] Johnson, was born near Bonaparte, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1872, and died very suddenly on Feb. 9, 1917, at the age of 44 years, 11 months and 25 days.

He labored very industriously on the farm until about twenty-one years of age when he unfortunately met with a severe accident which afflicted him until death. Before this accident he was a great reader, trying by this method to assimilate as much knowledge as possible. He made the best of every opportunity which presented itself to him. He was kindhearted and tried to do his duty to the best of his ability. He bore his affliction very bravely but has now found a happy release from same.

He leaves to mourn their loss his mother, two brothers, two sisters, five nephews, two nieces, and many friends. May the God of consolation console those who are bereaved.
