Helen Mary Vlcek, age 87, of Sunset Home, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 8:30 p.m. in Sunset Home. She was born April 20, 1921 in Kim, Colorado the daughter of Jess R. and Helen DeShazo Clark. In 1948 she married James Vlcek. He preceded her in death in March of 1980. She retired as Postmaster from the United States Postal Service in Pearlblossom, California. She relocated to Quincy several years ago to be with her family, which was the most important part of her life. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, reading and gardening. Survivors include: two nephews: Jesse L. Cortese and his wife, Dee, of Quincy; and Charles A. Cortese and his wife, Eva, of Macomb, IL; two nieces: Laurel A. Scarborough and her husband, Dale, of Tenino, WA; and Dorothy Bliven, of Omaha, NE; five great-nephews; a great-niece; and two step-sons, Larry Vlcek of Omaha, NE; and Glenn Vlcek and his wife Jane, of Omaha, NE . In addition to her husband, she was preceeded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jess Jr. and James Clark; and two sisters, Tennie Deffenbaugh and Pauline Cortese. There will be a gathering of family and friends and a time of prayer on Friday, January 9 from 6 - 7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Pueblo, CO.
