Gerald Fairchild, 81, of Amarillo died Tuesday, May 20, 2008.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Dr. Jeff Raines of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Mr. Fairchild was born July 3, 1926, in Wortham to Willis and Ruth Fairchild. He grew up in Odessa and graduated from high school in California. He married Ann Sakamoto in 1964 in Japan. He served in the U.S. Army for more than 22 years, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He served in the Philippines during World War II and also served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was an avid reader, and especially liked Louis L'Amour novels. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Fairchild.

Survivors include his wife Ann; two brothers, Kenneth Fairchild and Lynn Fairchild, both of Dallas; two nephews; and two nieces.

The family suggests memorials be to International Sunday School Department, First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler St., Amarillo, TX 79101-4296.
