Flonnie Mae McGowan Polston, 100 years 4 months and 11 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 6th, 2009.

Flonnie was born in Jabez, Kentucky on Wednesday, August 26th, 1908, daughter of the late Grover McGowan and Ella Smith McGowan. Flonnie was a faithful Christian and a charter member of the Calvary Separate Baptist Church in Nancy, Kentucky. She loved and served the Lord and taught her family to do the same. She is greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Flonnie was survived by two daughters, Ilene (and Floyd) Wilson and Eudene (and Wendell) Minton; four sons, Arlo (and Lavern) Polston, Albert (and Mildred) Polston, Clyde (and Margaret) Polston, and Falus (and Lois) Polston; two sisters, Gracie Smith and Gertrude (and Edsel) Polston; one brother, Leon (and Christine) McGowan; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover McGowan and Ella McGowan; her husband of 68 years, Arvel Estel Polston, whom she married on January 10th, 1926; five sisters, Tina McGowan Stephens, Alverta McGowan Polston, Millie Elsie McGowan Wiggington, Mary Bell McGowan Polston, and Velma Beatrice McGowan Stephens; four brothers, Falus Clyde McGowan, Ezra B. McGowan, Ova Ottis McGowan, and Marvin McGowan; one son, Jerry Lee Polston; and three grandchildren.

Visitations were held after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9th, 2009 at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at the Calvary Separate Baptist Church in Nancy, Kentucky with Brother Richie Curtis, Brother Mark Polston, and Brother Matthew Dalton officiating.

Burial followed in the Military Spring Cemetery in Jabez, Kentucky.
