IDAHO FALLS - Dan Eugene Kunz Jr. passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at a hospital in Idaho Falls.

He was born in Pocatello on December 5, 1946 to Dan Eugene and Ellen Eschler Kunz.

Gene attended school in Pocatello, graduating from Highland High School in 1965.

Following school, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Scotland Mission. Gene loved the time that he served in Scotland. He had a great love for the Scottish people and their culture.

Upon his return he enrolled in the Automotive Mechanics program at Idaho State University's college of vocational education. He was a member of the LDS Fraternity and attended the LDS Institute.

Gene married the love of his life, Janeil Sorensen, on April 12, 1974 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He loved her with all of his heart and was quick to tell everyone that she was the best thing that ever happened to him.

He and Janeil lived in Chubbuck and Pocatello until they moved to McCammon in 1977. They raised their family in McCammon and found many dear friends. They moved to Overton, Nevada in 2002 where they again found many dear friends. In 2006 they moved back to Shelley, Idaho to be closer to their family.

Gene worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist until he retired.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was active throughout his life and served in many positions.

He was a founding member of the McCammon Lions Club and was later a member of the Lava Hot Springs Lions Club. He served in every office in the local clubs, and held several district positions.

He had an amazing capacity to love. He loved his family and his friends and was diligent in making sure that they knew it. He also drew people in and loved them as family. He had a special collection of people that he considered family; he called them "in-dopted."

Gene loved cars, engines, tools, machines, animals and children.

He is survived by his wife Janeil, his children: Heather D. Kunz, Shelley; Dan Eugene (Julie Dotson) Kunz III, Las Vegas, NV; Ian Kunz, McCammon; and LaMonte V. Kunz, Logan; his "in-dopted" children, Benjamin and Terrilyn Simmons, Logan; Gavin W. Sorensen, McCammon; Steve and Tammy Voda, Logan; Troy Davis, McCammon; a grandchild, Chaz Voda; two more grandchildren are expected later this year; and his siblings: Linda (Paul) Raschke, Pocatello; Kent (Kitty) Kunz, Boise; Rick (Jean) Kunz, Pocatello; and Wendie Kunz, Ogden.
