JULIA HOLMES TIDWELL, 65, of Duncan, Okla., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at her home in Duncan.
Funeral will be at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Mike Roberson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
She was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Hobart, Okla., to Franklin Henry and Gladys Margaret Greer Holmes. The family moved to Waurika in 1944, where Julia attended all 12 years of school. In 1961, she married Jimmy Roe Smith of Waurika. They were blessed with three children, Jimmy Roe Smith Jr., Jeffrey Lee Smith and Jeannia Smith.
On Dec. 10, 1986, Julia married Jeff Tidwell of Duncan, where they made their home.
Julia worked in the Jefferson County district attorney's office and later became a court reporter in Jefferson and Stephens counties. She worked as a court reporter for 25 years at the Stephens County Courthouse.
She was a good humanitarian.
Julia was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church.
Julia was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff of the home; a daughter, Jeannia Johnson and husband Joe of Duncan; two sons, Jeffrey Smith of Duncan and special friend Eillana, and Jimmy Smith Jr. and wife Rita of Lawton; a stepdaughter, Tracy Troth and husband Richard of Krum, Texas; a stepson, Todd Tidwell and wife Leah of Norman; two sisters, Frances Hall of Waurika, and Kathleen Hagwald of Chickasha; a brother, Gerald Holmes and wife Carol of Perryton, Texas; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Shanna Francis.
Pallbearers will be Todd Tidwell, Joe Johnson, Mark Ashton, Brett Hawkins, Don Rice and Lowell McMasters.
Honorary bearers are the two Men's Sunday School Classes at Western Heights Baptist Church.
