Born: Dauphin County PA

He married Catherine Singer on 11 Dec 1945 in Hunters Valley, Perry Co., PA. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Buffalo Township, Perry County, and stood over 6' tall with black hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 20, 1864, as a private with Co. I, 46th Pennsylvania Infantry. Becoming disabled for active duty, on March 22, 1865 in Georgia, Battle of Peach Tree. He was transferred to Co. A, Veteran Reserve (Invalid) Corps, but his discharge date remains to be discovered. He filed for War Pension Oct 1865. He was shot in the hand, losing one finger and disabling his others. He over the course of the next few years, his hand and arm began to cause him a great deal of pain. One doctor said he thought it was a nerve that had attached itself to the bone of his amputated finger and wanted to perform surgery to relieve the nerve but Jeremiah would have none of it. The pain was getting to where it shot up his arm and caused his heart to hurt. Doctors told him it would eventually kill him. He was in a constant state of pain and had a great deal of anxiety. On the day of his death, his wife said he ate a hearty dinner (lunch) and by 5pm, he was dead. By this time his arm was nothing but skin and bone, no muscle at all.
