Annie Katrine Jensen daughter of Jens Christian Christensen and Ane Larsen was born the 9th of November 1844 in Moseberg, Hjorring Amt, Denmark. She was the third daughter and the third child in the family of eight. On May 23, 1863 she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the only one of her family to accept the Gospel. Her father was impressed by its teachings, but because of the bitterness of his wife toward Mormonism he never did join the Church. So on a day in May 1866 she set sail for America on the sail ship "Kennilworth" with John Brown as Captain. Annie then made the trip from New York to Nebraska on the train. When they arrived in Nebraska they were met by ox teams sent from Utah. Annie walked practically all the way across the plains, because of the scarcity of wagons and the large number of people. After a long hard trip they arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on the 19th of October 1866. She married Charles Claymore Bartlett on September 12, 1868 in the endowment house. After they were married they lived on a little farm in what was called Mt. Dell settlement. It was just up to the tip of Parley's Canyon. About four years after their marriage they moved to Big Cottonwood, now known as Holladay. Here they had a seven acre farm. The Bartletts found that a small farm was not sufficient to make a livelihood on. They decided to obtain a larger one. Eventually they decided to move to Ashley Valley. It was October 15, 1879 that they arrived in Ashley Valley and took up their abode in the Fort, which has been spoken of sometimes as Hatch town. Annie and Charles were the parents of ten children, six boys and four girls. Seven of the them grew to adulthood. Thier oldest son Bart was twenty when Ross the youngest was born. There was Bart, George H. (my father), Seleucia, Nellie, Randolph, Ashley, Marcus, May, Sarah, and Ross. Grandmother was a small woman being 5 feet tall, and weighing about 120 pounds. She had light brown hair, and blue eyes, but went gray very young. None of her children could remember their mother when her hair wasn't gray. She died the 5th of January 1937 at age 92.
