LAURENCE LARRY AUGUSTUS GOBIN Larry passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002 In Chico, Calif, at the age of 84. He was born to Kenneth and Alice Gobin in Dayton, Ohio on December 29, 1917. Larry came to Chico in 1920. He attended schools in Chico and Paradise. He worked on several local farms and ranches before a successful lumber career.
This career began in 1938 in the city of Westwood, Calif, working for Red River Lumber Co. He returned to Chico in 1941 and was the owner of an almond ranch. In the fall of 1944 he entered the U.S. Army and served in Europe for two years. After his discharge in the spring of 1946 he returned to working his orchard uni he accepted a position with Diamond Lumber in Chico.
In 1956 he commuted to Red Bluff to supervise the construction of the new mill. The company relocated in 1961, and in 1962 he was promoted to plant manager. In 1968 he supervised the rebuilding and operations of the Stirling City Mill. Later in the spring of 1969 he supervised the reconstruction of the Oroville Diamond Mill uni he made the decision to run the logging operations at Lyman Springs uni 1974. He then transferred to Marysville as plant manager until his retirement in February of 1981 and returned to live in Chico.
He and his wife of 28 years enjoyed many years of traveling in their RV. He was a talented carpenter and his hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Chico as well as his children; Larry &. Fiesta Gobin of Redway, Don &; Wendy Gobin of Crescent City, Carol &; Bruce Johnston of Gerber, Gal & Clint Pritchard of Gerber; his stepchildren include Judy Teague of Oroville, Tami Hilton of Roseville and Toni Hilton of Chico; his brothers' are Ted Gobin of Paradise, Paul Gobin of Burney and Phillip Gobin of Lukeville, Ariz. His sisters are Margarita Rogers and Pam Warren of Paradise and Elouise Crary of Modesto; also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A viewing is scheduled for Thursday; June 13th from 7-9p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Graveside services are planned for Friday, June 14th at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at 11:00a.m.
