Afton Man Dies Of Heart Attack
A heart attack Sunday, June 22 at 3:30 p.m. claimed the life of Osborne E. Papworth, Afton rancher. He was 69 years of age at the time of his death. Mr Papworth was stricken Sunday afternoon when he was rushed to the Star Valley Hospital, but efforts to save his life failed.
Osborne Enoch Papworth was born at Salt Lake City, Utah March 7, 1889 to Osborne T. Papworth and Grace Christy Covey. He spent his early years in Salt Lake City. While there he attended the dedication of the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
When he was six years old the family moved to Crescent, Utah. At age 10 years of age, he came to Wyoming to work with his father's sheep. In 1905 his father moved his family, which consisted of ten children to Afton.
He filled a Central States Mission in 1913. He married Wilda Cline in the Salt Lake Temple February 16, 1916 and in 1919 they purchased the ranch that is now their home.
In 1930 his sisters, two girls June and Donna, were adopted after her death. In 1948 he and his wife were called on a six month mission to Southern California.
He was a lover of the soil and animals and had a remarkable memory for his experiences of the past. He loved nothing better than to gather his loved ones around him and relate his experiences with his sheep and horses.
Funeral services under the direction of Schwab Mortuary were held Wednesday June 25 at the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Afton cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Wilda C. Papworth; two daughters Donna Wheeler and Jane Bruce; four brothers, Elmo W., Steve M, Royle S. and Harold R. Papworth; two sisters Ethel P. Call and Leona P. Call; a stepmother Mary P. Simper; and six grandchildren.
