John LeRoy Dorathy was born June 28, 1881, the son of Morris and Lydia (Besse) Dorathy in Portland Township. He attended Portland School and lived in the Prophetstown area all of his life. He attended the Prophetstown First Methodist Church.
He was a rural mail carrier for 42 years. He married Frances Leona Given on April 12, 1913 in Morrison.
He passed away at the age of 84 on July 14, 1965 at Sterling Community General Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, July 16, 1965 at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, Prophetstown, with Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
He is survived by three sons, Arlyn and Robert of Prophetstown; Howard of San Jose, California; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Hill, Prophetstown; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded by his wife, two brothers, and three sisters.
