Mr. Banks retired in 1964 after 45 years with the Southern Railway Company. He was an engineer and ran the last passenger train, The Carolina Special, out of Charleston to Columbia. He was a Baptist and a Mason.
He was the son of Jacob Adkin Banks and Mary Ellen Werts and had attended Leesville Military College. He married Mary Cecilia Bellinger Jan.3, 1917 and had two daughters, Mary Banks and Margaret Banks, both of Charleston, SC.
He had five brothers; Noah Samuel Banks, Willie Jefferson Banks, M. George Banks, Sturgeon Burnett Banks, and John Westly Banks. He had two sisters; Beulah J. Banks and Daisey Lenora Banks.
