Thursa M. "Babe" Cannon, 89, died June 25, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson after a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Melrose, NM, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude Musselman Fox. She was a longtime resident of Hutchinson. She graduated from Plevna High School, and she also graduated from beauty school in Hutchinson. She was retired. She worked for Woolworths, she worked as a Beautician, and she worked in the laundry department at Hutchinson Hospital.

She served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a veteran of World War II. She was awarded the Victory Medal in 1947. She belonged to the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 and the American Legion Auxiliary Nos. 8 and 40.

On Aug. 5, 1945 she married Carl H. Cannon in Winthrop, MA. He died Oct. 12, 1998. Survivors include: five sons, Fred and wife Myrna, Larned, Ted and wife, Nancy, Hutchinson, Dennis, Dalton, AL, Chris and wife Jana, Hutchinson and Lafie and wife Laura, Salina; one daughtyer; Linda King and husband Arthur, Haysville; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Cannon, Blue Springs, MO; two brothers, Kenneth Fox, Arvada, CO and Max Fox, Stafford; 11 Grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Steven Cannon; two brothers, Dick and Glee Fox; and two sisters, Freda Gitchell and Owena Nuefeld.

Funeral will be at 2 pm Friday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park with military graveside service conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Humane Society or Good Samaritan Center, both in care of Elliott Mortuary.
