Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in New Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bays was born on December 22, 1928, in Webster County to Dewitt Land and Genice Griffin Land. She was married to Lewis William Bays for 62 years. She served as the director of finances for the Bolivar County Schools for 32 years. She was a member of the Bolivar County School Board where she was recognized for valuable service.
Mrs. Bays served as president of the National Educational Secretaries Association. Evelyn was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Cleveland Women's Club and the Fairfield Garden Club. She was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Major Carrol P. Land.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis William Bays Sr. of Cleveland; two sons, Lewis William Bays Jr. of Ruleville, Benjamin Land Bays of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Nell Land Williams of Cleveland, Sue Land Dear of Cordova, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Vanessa Bays, Erin Bays and Billy Bays.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bays, John Land, Bob Yeager, Harry Howarth, John Phillip Land, Sam Junkin, Trent LaMastus, and James Marquis.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Phillip Land, Grover Dear, and Doug Dear.
