Tail gunner of B-24 "Taloa" (serial number 44-40716). Shot down and crashed near Hiroshima on 28 July 1945. It was believed that he was taken prisoner and held at the Chugoku Military Police Headquarters and died with at least ten other Americans held prisoner of war in the atomic bomb blast at Hiroshima on 6 August 1945.

The death date on his grave marker was initially engraved 6 August 1945 which would coincide with the date of the atomic bomb blast and some time later, 28 July 1945 was engraved on it which would leave one to believe that he died in the plane crash or shortly after.
