"Elizabeth Hill Douglas Redd was born in Hanover County near Old Church. Her parents were Robert Bassett Douglas and Clementia Alexander Douglas. She attended Farmville Normal Institute (Longwood College) in the 1920s and went on to a career of teaching. Aunt Liz taught in rural Highland County, Hanover County, and Chesterfield County. For many years she was the Principal of Forest View Elementary. She was the first woman to serve as a principal in Chesterfield County. Upon her retirement the school was renamed Elizabeth D. Redd Elementary. The school continues to operate under that name in the City of Richmond. Aunt Liz dedicated every waking hour of the day to her staff and students. It is evident today. So many alumni and former teachers continue to marvel at her passion for students and the love she shared for all. Her students were known as "love bugs". Aunt Liz married Charles Faben Redd. They had no children. She is remembered for all time for an out pouring of love and compassion for others."
