WICKLINE, H. H.
Among the native-born citizens of Texas, conspicuous for their ability, energy and worth, is H. H. Wickline, of Woodville, cashier of the Tyler County Bank. A son of the late Joseph B. Wickline, he was born, January 17, 1857, in Guadalupe County, Texas, where he grew to man's estate.
Born and bred in West Virginia, Joseph B. Wickline migrated to Texas in 1852, locating in Seguin, Guadalupe County. An agriculturist, he continued in his chosen occupation, and was engaged in farming and stock raising in that section of the state until his death, in 1869, while in manhood's prime. He married Jeannette McNutt, a native, likewise, of West Virginia. She survived him thirty years, passing away in 1899.
Completing his, early education in the public schools of Guadalupe County, H. H. Wickline began his active career as clerk in a store at Luling, Caldwell county, and was afterwards similarly employed in Wharton county, and at Beaumont, Jefferson county. Going from the latter city to Village Mills, Hardin County, Mr. Wickline remained there ten years as the manager of the Texas Tram and Lumber Company's store, and for four years more as superintendent of their entire plant.
Removing to Woodville in 1902, Mr. Wickline, in the fall of 1903, organized the Woodville Mercantile Company, and as manager of this concern carried on a substantial business for sixteen months, when the establishment was burned, and the business was not again built up. In 1905, Mr. Wickline became cashier of the Tyler County Bank, and has served ably and most acceptably to all concerned in this position. He is also a director in the Hardin County State Bank.
Mr. Wickline was united in marriage, in 1893, with Lula Collier, a daughter of J. Dallas Collier, of Woodville, and they are the parents of three children, Anna, Inez, and Joe Dallas. Politically Mr. Wickline is a Democrat, and fraternally he is a member of the Knights of Pythias. (Historical Review of South-East Texas and the Founders, Leaders and Representative Men, Vol 2, by Dermot Hardy and Maj. Ingham S. Robert, by The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, 1910
