John Darling Zeigler was born in Barnwell District, South Carolina March 29, 1820, a son of Joseph and Abegail Zeigler. He came with his parents to Lowndes County about 1845 and was married there in 1847 to Miss Keziah Carter, born 1831 in Lowndes County, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Knight) Carter. She died in 1894.
FROM THE OBIT OF JOHN DARLING ZEIGLER:
"When quite a young man he moved to this county and married Miss Kizzie Carter, and to them were born fourteen children, all of whom are living except two."
The family has always lovingly referred to her as Kizzie.
