Ernest was the pilot of a Gloster Meteor F. Mk.III EE353, of 74 (Tiger Squadron) based at RAF Horsham St. Faith, Norwich, Norfolk, that crashed on 24th Sep 1947, when the plane dived into the ground on asymmetric (single engine) when landing at its base.
