Lloyd R. Douglas, 71, of North Vernon passed away on January 2, 2009 at 9:52 p.m. at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Gene Poer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Born September 28, 1937 in Decatur County, he was the son of the late Sam and Elizabeth Stroup Douglas. He graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1956, and later served in the United States Army National Guard.

Lloyd retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1990 after 34 years of employment. He worked as a security guard for Country Squire Lakes 11 years, and served as Chief of Security for four years. He had worked the past 11 years at the North Vernon Wal-Mart. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and several other sports.

Mr. Douglas is survived by three sons, Frank Douglas of North Vernon, David Douglas of Paris Crossing, and Jeff Douglas of Westport, a daughter, Ann Bobb of Westport, three stepsons, Douglas Spicer of Crothersville, Michael Spicer of Columbus, Ohio, and Steve Spicer of North Vernon, three brothers, Marvin Douglas of Elizabethtown, George Douglas of Seymour, and Tom Douglas of Indianapolis, one stepbrother, Sam Smith, several grand- and great-grandchildren, and a former wife, Flora Taylor, of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a wife, Mary A. Douglas, four brothers, Paul, Norman, Herby, and Turner Douglas, and a stepbrother, Carl Smith.

Lloyd R. Douglas, 71, of North Vernon died at 9:52 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Mr. Douglas retired from Cummins Inc. in 1990 after 34 years of employment. He was a security guard for Country Squire Lakes 11 years and was chief of security for four years.
