JACKSON CORY
Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William
Letcher, at Central City, Nebraska, January 12, 1892,
Jackson Cory, aged 85 years, 5 months and 9 days.
Another pioneer of Steuben County has passed away. He
came to this county with Clark and Calvin Powers in
1836, and lived here until 1871 when he went to
Nebraska. In the spring of '37 he helped Clark Powers
build the first cabin in York township, near the present
site of the Powers school house, for the reception of
the Powers families then in transit. Mr. Cory selected
for himself the land in Otsego Township near where
Oliver Dunham now lives for his home and lived there
until the death of his wife in 1857.
