Ferne L. Ashby, 78, of 5418 Rainbow Drive, East Petersburg, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at 6:00 AM at Brethren Village following a lengthy illness.

She had resided at Brethren Village for one day.

She was the wife of the late Richard L. Ashby who died in 1992. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Eitnier Styer.

She was a homemaker. She had worked at the former Woolworth's Store in Lancaster from 1943 to 1956. She was a 1943 graduate of the East Hempfield High School.
She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in East Petersburg and had been active as a deaconess and a member of the Women's Guild.

She enjoyed reading and watching television.

Surviving is a son Alan married to Kelly Testerman Ashby of Manheim, a daughter April Rynard fiancé of Jeff Shirk of Lancaster, and a grandson Jordan R. Ashby.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Trinity United Church of Christ, 2340 State Street, East Petersburg, PA on Monday, December 8, at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Harry G. Royer officiating. Interment in the Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
