Hubert was the son of Walter C. Miller and Beulah Elizabeth Roseman of Kannapolis, North Carolina. Beulah was the daughter of Daniel Tildon Roseman and Ollie Raney.

He left for foreign service 20 September 1943, and had served in the Marshall Islands, Marianas, and Iwo Jima and had completed ten missions.

He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal and the Purple Heart.

Staff Sergeant Miller served with the 30th Bomb Group, 392nd Bomb Squadron aboard CB-24D Liberator #42-63765, nicknamed "Evelyn." He was killed in a crash on Oahu, Hawaii. All twelve servicemembers aboard perished. He was from Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
