Tanya Henry, 62, of Philadelphia died May 12, 2006, at her residence.

After graduating from Mathiston High School in 1961, Tanya Henry received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education in May 1971 and a master's of education degree in May 1974, both from Mississippi State University.

She began her teaching career in 1971 at Neshoba Central Elementary School, where she taught for 28 years before retiring in May 1998. One of the awards that was most memorable was the Neshoba County's Outstanding Young Educator Award that she received in 1977.

Tanya and her husband, Ralph, lived in Philadelphia for almost 40 years, where they raised their four sons.

During her leisure time, Tanya enjoyed visiting her grandchildren, playing solitaire and spending time with her cats. She especially enjoyed the Neshoba County Fair because it was a time when she could visit with friends and family that she didn't see as often as she would like. This past year all her children and grandchildren were able to attend.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Henry of Philadelphia; four sons, Todd Henry and his fiancé, Diane Bradley, of Madison, Ala., Kreg Henry and his wife, Lorri, of Sugar Land, Texas, Shawn Henry and his wife, Cassandra, of Gulfport and Joel Henry and his wife, Dana, of Germantown, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Henry, Savanna Henry, Tarrah Henry, Dustin Henry, Kristen Henry, Zack Henry, Peyton Henry, Ashlyn Henry, Erin Ashley Henry and Megan Henry; her mother, Earnestine Doss of Lumberton; three sisters, Barbara Davis and husband, Lloyd, of Lumberton, Donna Lowe of Franklin, Tenn., and Kurtrena Burns and husband, Leon, of Clinton; a brother, Keith Doss and wife, Mary, of Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, Gerald Henry and wife, Barbara, of Mathiston; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, M.T. Doss; a sister, Frankie Grisham and her husband, Gerald; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, M.O. and Clarice Henry.

Services were May 14 at McClain-Hays Chapel in Philadelphia with burial in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Mathiston. The Rev. Bryan Sherman and Dr. Eugene Dobbs officiated.

Pallbearers were Joel Henry, Dustin Henry, Todd Henry, Shawn Henry, Kreg Henry, Zack Henry, Scott Grisham, Brent Gray, Steve Grisham, Ricky Lowe, Kim Davis, Kurt Doss and Clint Doss.
