Harrah resident Charles A. Coker died Sunday in Midwest City at the age of 85.

Coker was born June 15, 1916, in Etowah to Richard and Laura Coker.

He attended Oklahoma Baptist University and pastored several churches in Oklahoma. In 1958, he resigned his pastorate at Sunnylane Baptist Church of Del City to enter Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After graduating in 1962, he pastored several churches in Missouri and Ohio.

He also served as a counselor at the Baptist Children's Home in St. Louis, Mo., and served as a family counselor in Ohio.

He retired from the ministry in 1984 and returned to Shawnee. He was an organist for Blackburn Chapel for several years.

He married Frances Lorene Menius on Sept. 28, 1938.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; sister, Lucy Davis; seven children and their spouses, Carole and Kenneth Glover, Paul and Roberta Coker, Myrl and Mike Palmer, Lynda and Larry Neely, Truett Coker, Connie Coker and Rick Coker; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Mixon and the Rev. John Coker officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of arrangements.

The family has designated New Hope Baptist Church as appropriate for memorials.
