Luther Mark Hopkins, a resident of Sloan, Iowa, passed away at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa on January 1, 1977 at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 16 days. Luther was born at Tecumseh, Nebraska on November 25, 1888; the son of Stephen Hopkins and Jennie Holmes Hopkins. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Wallace in 1912 at Burlington, Iowa. He was retired after having worked as a plumber in the Sloan area. Survivors include his son, John Robert Hopkins of Sunset, Utah; two grandsons, Steven and Guy Hopkins of Sloan, Iowa; four granddaughters, Mrs. Dee Davis of Sioux City, Iowa, Miss Penny Hopkins and Miss Niki Hopkins both of Sloan, Iowa and Mrs. Karlene Clark of Laramie, Wyoming; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, 8 brothers and 3 sisters. Services were held on Tuesday, January 4, 1977 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wood Funeral Chapel at Sloan, Ia., with Rev. Edward Moberg officiating. Organ selections were played by Mrs. Glen Miltenberger. Casket bearers were Wayne Peterson, Larry Johnson, Clyde Johnson, Robert Friis, V.V. Dunagan and Lloyd Tresham. Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery at Sloan, Iowa with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Sloan.
