Last Monday one of the oldest pioneer citizens of this township passed away, at his late residence near this village. Mr. Enoch Phillips had passed his 85th milestone and a few days before his death, was considered active for a man of his years. Mr. Phillips in company with two of his brothers immigrated from New Jersey in 1831 and purchased adjoining farms. The other two brothers have long since departed this life leaving Uncle Enoch, as he was called, the last survivor. Mr. Phillips has lived for the past 60 years on the same farm. His estimable wife preceded him some seven years since. A family of nine children and many friends mourn their loss. He had been a member of the M.P. church for many years. The funeral services were held at 11 Wednesday morning by Reverend W L Wells.
