William E. "Bill" Parks, 70, died Jan. 1, 2009, at Reno County Hospice House. He was born Sept. 13, 1938, in Hutchinson, the son of Art and Katherine Elam Parks.

A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a 1956, graduate of Hutchinson High School and had attended Hutchinson Junior College.

He had been a longtime food broker and was a volunteer for 10 years for Victory in the Valley Cancer Support Group, involved in transportation of cancer patients.

He was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church and had been attending The Father's House Church.

On April 21, 1961, he married Sherye Boling in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: three sons, Steven Whitehurst and Blake Boling, both of Hutchinson, and Roger Parks, The Colony, Texas; a brother, Claude Parks, Hutchinson; a sister, Beth Moore, Severy; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Lance Edward; his parents; and a sister, Maxine Worton.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Father's House, with Bishop Quintin Moore presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Memorials may be sent to Reno County Hospice House, or the church, both in care of the funeral home.
