Karen was united in marriage to John Gustafson on December 27, 1966, at the American Lutheran Church in Milbank. She worked as a nurse's aide at St. William's Nursing Home in Milbank and owned and operated the Twin Brooks Café for four years.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Milbank and the Grant County VFW Post #3486 Ladies Auxiliary She also volunteered her time at the Community Thrift Store in Milbank. Karen especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to garden and can tomatoes, beets, pickles, and corn. Karen also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, sewing, fishing, and camping.
Survivors include her husband John, rural Twin Brooks; two daughters, Tressa and her fiancé, Mark Steinborn, Montevideo, MN; Tammy and her special friend, Terry Wilson, Watertown, SD; one son, David, Litchfield, MN; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Marion McFarling and husband Wayne, Hedrick, Iowa; Gloria Kennedy, Sioux Falls, SD; and Shirley Arnold, Deposit, New York; one brother Gary Angerhofer and wife Pat, Maple Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Howard, Jim, Larry, Dick, and Julius Angerhofer.
Funeral services for Mrs. Karen Ann Gustafson, age 61, of rural Twin Brooks, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2005, in the American Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. Karen died on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, in the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 10:00 a.m. Monday to attend services. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and the soloist will be Deb Rausch. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church Monday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Harold Haugen, Scott Kennedy, David Wellnitz, Bob Jackson, Davin (this is correct spelling!) Kennedy, and Duane Wiseman. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
