Daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Taylor) Beeby of Elstow, Bedfordshire, England. She was born in England in about 1828. In 1832, when Hannah was about four years old, the family sailed to America on the ship Fame. They arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 14, 1832. Daniel built a log home and by 1840, the family had settled in Thornbury township (near Cheyney) in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

When Hannah was 26 years of age, she married Peter Tompkins. They had one daughter, Sarah E. Tompkins, who was born on Feb. 26, 1856, in Chester Valley, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Just three years later, Hannah died on March 2, 1859. She was 29 years of age.
